Design, Supply & Maintenance of Fire Fighting Appliances with a strong emphasis on "Compliance". Associated with all industry organizations both statutory and voluntary. We were there when the legislators made thedecision to amend the Occupational Health andSafety Regulations addressing fire extinguishers byincorporating them into the Vessel Under PressureRegulations. The result is that any companyemploying the persons performing maintenance onfire extinguishers must hold SABS 1475 Mark andtheir technicians shall be registered as CompetentPersons with the SAQCC (Fire). We were a part of the founding group ofindividuals who established the SAQCC (Fire) inorder to define the skills required to safely andeffectively perform maintenance work that satisfiesthe manufacturer's design specifications. Today, customers have the comfort of knowing that theirequipment is maintained by a RegisteredCompetent Person whose registration may comeinto question should their actions deviate from therequirements. The committee of the SAQCC (Fire)may investigate the actions of their registeredcompetent persons and withdraw registration butthey may not interfere with commercial issues suchas prices or bad business practices such ascharging for spares never used.We were at the technical committees writing thenumerous SABS Codes and Standards associatedwith our industry. SANS 1475-1/2 requires allservice companies to maintain records of all theequipment serviced by their technicians. SANS10105 makes it a legal requirement for thecustomers (Users) to be in possession ofmaintenance records of their fire fightingequipment as does the Vessels under PressureRegulations in order to satisfy any enquiry by theChief Inspector.
