The Type Directors Club is the leading international organization whose purpose is to support excellence in typography. Founded in 1946 by some of the leading type practitioners in New York City, the Club now has an international membership. The Club encourages membership by anyone in advertising, communications, education, marketing, and publishing who has a keen interest in type and the written word -- graphic designers, art directors, editors, multimedia professionals, students, and entrepreneurs.The Club hosts workshops, salons, design exhibitions, and other gatherings in New York City. It hosts Ascenders, a competition to honor young type-oriented designers, and two other annual competitions to honor the best typography in the world, which is exhibited in over 40 cities in North America, Europe, and Asia each year.
