Education Management

Osiligi Maasai Mara is a non profit organization. Its goal is to provide a better education to Maasai youth. Why?Wildlife in Kenya is critically endangered. We decided to act.The human activities' impact in Kenya is really huge. There are various causes : Agriculturre, Human expansion, Fragmentation, Poaching, Illegal hunting.Today, Masai people tend to settle. Because of that, they expand their farming in order to feed their livestock. Because grass is rare in the region, they lead their livestock in the reserve itself, the land of lions.Accidents are numerous. Lions hunt and eat cows. By retaliation, the masai warriors hunt and kill lions. Because of their new sedentarity, Masai tribes fragment the territory of the lions, and this fragmentation destroys lions families. Their hierarchy is scrambled, reproduction cycles are broken, and males kill females' cubs who are not theirs.Because of the rarefaction of their land, lions are in competition with other predators such as cheetahs. Cheetahs in Masai Mara are largely endangered. On the other side, Kenyan people living in and around cities want to expand their living area. The Masai-Mara national reserve is surrounded and human pressure is constant on wildlife.Poaching and illegal hunting are two other factors involved in the threats to wild animals. One of the available solutions is that Masai people take control of their fate and economy more efficiently. With a good education, they can afford themselves to become the keepers of their homeland. The Masai warriors can become rangers who protect wildlife against poachers..Also, a controlled tourism in the Masai Mara national reserve represents a good economic alternative to farming. So if we want to save kenyan wildlife, it has to be done with Masai people. They are the only ones who can protect and develop an economy around the wildlife of the Masai-Mara national reserve, and the only ones who can protect wildlife.
