The mission of Amani Global Works (AGW) is to save lives in the Great Lakes region of Africa. Founded in 2010, AGW brings comprehensive, inclusive, and sustainable primary healthcare and related services to underserved communities in the most remote regions of Africa. AGW has established an integrated primary healthcare system on Idjwi Island in the DRC by fully equipping a 150-bed hospital, regional clinics, and training and supervising paid community health workers (CHWs). The system provides the community with care in a dignified setting. We work towards decreasing child and maternal mortality and improving the overall health outcomes in Idjwi by providing access to free and low-cost proven treatments, services and programs, and by addressing community health concerns including nutrition, agriculture, and education. The Amani model is based on the belief that no matter how isolated a community is, its people should have access to basic, lifesaving healthcare.
