Executive Director at Center for the Advancement and Study of International Education - Atlanta, GA, US
CASIE--The Center for the Advancement and Study of International Education works with educators to promote international understanding through education programs, research, discussion, policy planning, and professional development. In the 20 years of its existence, the organization has grown from 1 part-time employee and a volunteer director to its current 6-member staff and 13-member board of trustees. As it has grown and matured into a seasoned organization, CASIE's scope of work and reach have paradoxically widened at the same time as they have become more focused. CASIE strives to broaden educators' perspective and raise their consciousness in a way that is direct and challenging and which leads to tangible changes in their approach to classroom teaching. CASIE participants interact differently with their students, create different lesson plans, and teach differently. Their students feel more included, participate more, learn more, and are better prepared to succeed in our continually-evolving world. Most of CASIE's work involves direct training of teachers and administrators in U.S. K-12 schools through workshops and consulting visits, but CASIE also engages in system-focused advocacy and research, presents global conferences, and serves as an educational resource for parents. Since 1999, more than 24,000 educators, parents, and others participated in CASIE's broad range of workshops and programs.
