Founded in 1902, Barton College is a four-year, private institution of higher learning located in Wilson, N.C. Barton celebrates bold thinking among faculty and staff while nurturing bold leadership development among students.Barton provides a challenging academic environment with a range of professional and liberal arts programs leading to the baccalaureate and master's degree. Barton is segmented into 8 academic schools: Allied Health and Sport Studies, Business, Education, Humanities, Nursing, Social Work, Sciences, and Visual, Performing, and Communication Arts. Barton offers 34 majors leading to Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Liberal Studies, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and Bachelor of Social Work degrees. Graduate programs include the Master of Business Administration in Strategic Leadership, Master of Education in Elementary Education, Master of School Administration, and Master of Science in Nursing degrees. The foundation of the Barton Experience is the promise to provide tools and support to maximize students' potential in the classroom and beyond. With a focus on academic excellence, professors introduce subjects with fresh perspectives and captivate students' interest through integrated hands-on opportunities that merge learning with doing. The Barton Experience offers purposeful internships/practicums in academic disciplines, meaningful international travel/study, student/faculty research and presentation through the Day of Scholarship, opportunities to give back to community through the Day of Service, participation in Barton's distinguished Whitehurst Family Honors Program, an array of cultural events, and diverse athletic competition with 21 NCAA DII teams. The result is an annual class of graduates with increased emotional intelligence, a broadened awareness of diverse cultures, and a strengthened sense of ethical leadership and purpose as they boldly prepare to serve local and global communities.
