Deep Ellum Art Co. is a place where you can experience live music, local art, huge drink selections, and delicious street food. Founded by entrepreneur and creative advocate John LaRue, Deep Ellum Art Co. is Dedicated to the Creative and Native. LaRue, who also owns So-Cal Tacos in Grapevine, is using this multi-use location to preserve the artistic value that makes Deep Ellum unique and bringing the creative community together. The mixed-use creative facility is combining an art gallery with 27 taps and seven cocktails, food trucks, indoor and outdoor event/performance spaces, and an ambitious outdoor street art gallery to complement the more than 20 artists featured all over the building. The space is located at 3200 Commerce St., Dallas, Texas 75226."I didn't set out to create a space that had a singular identity," said LaRue. "Deep Ellum Art Co. represents as full a spectrum of the arts as our local artists bring to us. The goal is to promote all of the arts be it music, culinary, sculpture, 2D, 3D, digital and more."Once a printing press repair shop, and before that an auto parts and service center for a local dealership in the '50s, the creative space includes an indoor and outdoor art gallery, a stage for live music and a nearly 60- foot bar. The 5,000 square foot building, built in 1949, is flanked by roughly 10,000 square feet of treed outdoor space.Deep Ellum Art Co. has art on every wall space available on the property. With the spacious courtyard, LaRue and his artistic director, Amber Crimmings host a regular outdoor artist market and have an artist mentor program, aimed at giving young local artists the opportunity to work and learn alongside established artists in a creative classroom environment."We all have to work to preserve the spirit of Deep Ellum. Creative spaces like this in the neighborhood are crucial to maintaining what makes Deep Ellum so special.
