Treasure Brook Investments (TBI) is a limited liability Kenyan based company that believes in social impact and sustainable and responsible profitability. The founders believe an investor can make a decent return on their investment whilst doing well good in the communities and the society in which the business operates.Driven by these beliefs, TBI targets the high risk and excluded demography of youth and women. These were clients who are considered high risk borrowers by financial institutions because they lack sufficient credit history. TBI focuses on the micro leasing of productive assets under strict supervision to ensure the assets are being put into productive use. In 2013, the company began operations by using a leasing to own business model. To date, TBI has achieved the following summarized results:(i) Leased over 750 motorbikes in Mombasa, Kitui, Nairobi, Kwale and Kilifi counties. (ii) Trained 650 riders in collaboration with a driving school to ensure the riders were well prepared to ensure safety. (iii) Trained more than 500 riders in collaboration with local traffic police officers on basic safety measures and working in partnership with police to reduce crime in the areas of operation. (As a result of this training and collaboration, only 2 out of the 780 motorcycles have been in minor accidents since we began operations. Cooperation with police also assured our young riders a more conducive relationship with police because they know the riders meet the required road safety standards.) (iv) Disbursed 0ver 500 cooking gas cylinders; 30 generators for irrigated farming; 500+ solar units; and more than 1500 working capital loans worth KES 60M in cumulative value to over 400 repeat customers (largely clients with other assets).
