Based in Halifax, Canada and supported by Grand Challenges Canada and Stone Family Foundation, Aerosan is on a mission to provide sanitation to the world's poorest and most vulnerable.Current Project Nepal:Aerosan is currently working on the design and implementation of holistic sanitation services in Nepal. Our objective is to improve the delivery and access of sanitation services in this region. In doing so, Aerosan is committed to have a positive impact on the region's social welfare, local economy and environment. To realize the full health and economic benefits of sanitation, the entire Sanitation Value Chain must be considered, from toilet use, collection, transportation, treatment and disposal. At Aerosan, this also involves the bundling of user services, eco-efficient energy systems, waste-to-value processes, and strategic partnerships. Aerosan is committed to utilizing the latest eco-efficient technology and innovative business practices for the sustainable development of sanitation services and practices.Aerosan Technology:Aerosan has developed robust dry sanitation systems that can be installed in less than two hours in emergency, humanitarian and development settings at low-cost. The Aerosan system uses air in the form of ventilation to eliminate odors and improve waste digestion, making the system attractive to users and a great plug-in for any waste-to-value operation. Why Sanitation:More than 2.5 billion people still lack access to a properly working toilet, what's called 'improved sanitation'. Of these, 2.1 billion people, mostly living in urban areas are only containing their waste and not disposing of it safely. Without these basic services, drinking water supplies are contaminated resulting in high rates of child mortality, stunted development in children and decreased productivity for growing economies.
