Founded in 1943, Uitgeverij Van Oorschot is one of the Netherlands' few remaining independent literary publishing houses. Famed for the Russische Bibliotheek, a series of works by the great Russian authors, ranging from Tsjechov to Dostojevsky, and more recently Babel, Van Oorschot is also well-known for its award-winning Dutch classics. From its beginnings to the present day Uitgeverij Van Oorschot delights in bringing new generations of outstanding voices in literature, poetry, and non-fiction to the attention of the Dutch reading public.
