S1 Artspace is a gallery and artist studio organisation based at the iconic Park Hill estate in Sheffield, that actively supports the production and presentation of new work and ideas. Established in 1995 by artists living and working in Sheffield who wanted to create a different type of studio organisation; one where artists would collaborate, share ideas and create opportunities for themselves. Over its 21-year history, it has provided 160 artists with studios, presented work by over 550 artists and commissioned 80 new works. S1 Artspace is currently based at interim premises in the former garage building at Park Hill whilst it delivers its ambitious plans to establish Park Hill Art Space. This flagship project will will feature one of the largest contemporary art galleries in the North of England as well as artist studios, workspace for creative businesses, learning and community studios, heritage flats, accommodation for visiting artists, a gallery shop and café. The project will provide public access to the Duke St block of the Grade II* listed Park Hill estate, including access to flats as part of a public heritage offer. The plans also include designs by Jonathan Cook Landscape Architects which will transform the landscape of Park Hill into an urban sculpture park, and residential flats by Urban Splash which will complete Phase 4 of the Park Hill Estate.
