Upper Access is a small book publishing company. We operate as a conventional, royalty-paying book publisher, but limit our list to no more than two or three new titles per year, in addition to updating current titles. The niche is a broad one, nonfiction to improve the quality of life. We are, obviously, very selective, but the criteria are quite simple. (1) I have to like the book and (2) I have to think that we can sell enough copies to be financially worthwhile. Big publishers expect some of their titles to lose money--but because of our small scale, each book has to make at least a small profit (and preferably a substantial one).
