Diabetes Management Resource Center is an organization that was established in May 2014 with an Aim to educate the public about diabetes, Diabetes related complications and share knowledge and experiences on how to effectively manage the disease. Through education and advocacy, the center addresses health, social and behavioral needs of people living with diabetes and those at high risk. Our mission is to promote healthy living and responsible Diabetes management in Kenya.The organization was created to respond to the alarming rates of diabetes and the lack of knowledge in the public on ways to stay healthy and avoid diabetes (type 2) and how to manage it to steer clear from the serious complications associated with poor management of the disease. We are committed to giving invaluable information and treatment to people living with diabetes so that they can manage the disease well. Historically, the management of diabetes has been viewed as a role of the health care providers. This however has proved ineffective as more and more people develop complications due to lack of information. The higher prevalence of Diabetes in Kenya therefore calls for the need for change on how the disease is managed.It is important to note that effective control of diabetes calls for a Self-directed care from the patients. This is supported by International Diabetes Federation (IDF) that acknowledges that people with diabetes are responsible for their day-to-day decisions regarding the management of the disease. A patient centered approach which forms the core approach and existence of DMRC needs to be given priority for better management. Many patients lack access to education and the skills to effectively manage the disease and change their behaviors. This is also a challenge DMRC tackles through selflessly educating people on our social media platforms and at our Center about diabetes, Management and encouraging everyone the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle.
