Swan supports and empowers individuals to ask for the information and services they need in order to improve their own health and well being and provides generic and specialist advocacy services, including Independent Mental Capacity Act (IMCA), Deprivation of liberty safeguards (DOLS) and IMHA services. IMHAs are specialist advocates who are trained to work within the framework of the Mental Health Act 1983. Please take a few moments to put yourself into the shoes of one of our clients… Perhaps you have lost touch with your family and your memory is fading. When people talk to you, you have trouble understanding. You get upset and angry because you can't understand and you feel no one is listening to you. You don't know where to turn, and then somebody suggests Swan Advocacy. An advocate patiently listens to you, helps you understand, and explains your options and choices. The advocate ensures you have the support to make an informed choice and get the help and support you need.
