Help One Child is 501 (c) 3 non-profit corporation dedicated to recruiting, training and supporting those willing to provide a home or volunteer services to foster children. Founded in 1993, the organization supplements County social service system education and services, providing the tools needed to raise a healthy, happy, and responsible child. Offering unique education and support services to foster, adoptive, reunified and safe families throughout the Bay Area, the organization deploys hundreds of volunteers into over 16,000 hours meaningful service each year.Special programs include respite-focused events such as Parent's Night Out, and parent support groups throughout its region. Quarterly adult education seminars target parent skill training and tools for enhancing attachment for struggling foster and adoptive families. Structured childcare is provided for children at all events and seminars as well as the monthly M-Power Life Skills program for children 6-11 years old. The You, Me and God Sunday school classes are held weekly at the Help One Child site at Union Presbyterian Church in Los Altos for children who cannot attend mainstream class environments, offering an opportunity for respite and worship to caregiver parents. As well, Help One Child heads the Safe Families for Children (SFFC) movement in the South Bay. SFFC aims to reduce child abuse and abandonment by coming alongside children and families facing overwhelming circumstances. This program allows for children to be taken care of and supported through the church community while their parents deal with the issues they face, ranging from illness to financial problems.
