We are a voluntary Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) in Wolverhampton called Wulfruna Land & Water Lifesavers, set-up as a charity using the CIO Foundation Model.The team takes its name from the City of Wolverhampton's founder Lady Wulfruna (c.935-1005). Wulfruna was a Saxon noblewoman from the Kingdom of Mercia, whom in 985 was granted lands by King Æthelred II. The land was referred to as "a Heanton" (the Saxon name for high place), thus Wulfruna's Heanton (Wolverhampton) was born.The objects for which the CIO is established is to further the saving of lives, whether by prevention or rescue, for the public benefit, in particular but not exclusively:1. By promoting water safety practices in all aspects of water activities.2. By providing a voluntary lifeguard service to the community and public at large3. By providing voluntary community first response to the community and public at large4. By providing aquatic lifesaving and search and rescue qualifications5. By providing education and training in water safety, rescue, lifesaving, coaching, resuscitation, and first aid6. By providing lifesaving safety awareness and prevention of drowning guidance and information.
