Members are men of good character dedicated to fun, fellowship and the Masonic principles of brotherly love, truth and relief. Shriners are perhaps best known by their tasseled red fezzes , and the life-changing medical care provided through the organization's signature philanthropy, Shriners Hospitals for Children®. The Shriners organization was founded in 1870 by Masons seeking a way bring more fun to their fraternity life. Membership still requires that a man first be a Master Mason. Today, Shriners International boasts more than 200,000 members who attend meetings and events at nearly 200 temples (chapters) as well as thousands of local clubs and units.
