Africa Foundation was born out of the belief that, through effective consultation and collaboration, with legitimate local leadership in place, rural communities are empowered to enable development on a far more successful and sustainable scale.Africa Foundation facilitates the empowerment and development of people living in or adjacent to protected wilderness areas in Africa, by forging unique partnerships between conservation initiatives and communities. We fund projects based on the needs within the communities surrounding conservation areas, specifically in the following areas:Education: School improvement, scholarship programs, conservation lessons, programs for orphaned and vulnerable childrenHealthcare: Primary healthcare centers, HIV/AIDS awareness programs, access to water, sanitationIncome Generating Activities: Agricultural projects, skills centers, entrepreneurial supportFor 25 years, Africa Foundation, together with committed communities and generous donors, has facilitated the socio-economic development of these communities, and in so doing, improved the lives and livelihoods of those most in need.In our 25 years of operation, Africa Foundation has achieved the following:- Built over 170 classrooms, 25 pre-schools, school kitchens, bathrooms, media centers, libraries and teachers' accommodations- Built 6 day care centers for orphans and vulnerable children- Trained over 500 teachers and 7,000 pupils in environmental awareness- Awarded university level scholarships to over 250 aspiring community leaders- Built and supported 4 health clinics in remote rural areas- Funded water relief programs including access to potable water for more than 25,000 school children- Facilitated the establishment of food gardens- Led HIV/AIDs initiativesAfrica Foundation is currently funding projects in more than 40 communities in Botswana, Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania and Zanzibar.
