Tuberculosis is a daunting problem that disproportionately affects those living in poverty, and it is the leading cause of death from infectious disease worldwide. In 2016, an estimated 10.4 million new cases were reported – nearly 1 million of these were children living in the poorest countries – and nearly 1.7 million people died from the disease.
