The mission of FitWorth is to inspire a sustainable cultural shift toward increased physical activity and nutritious choices for families in Fort Worth, at home, school, work, and play. Our vision is to create a replicable and evidence-based system of collaborative campaigns and resources to promote sustainable healthy communities. The FitWorth Healthy City Initiative was launched in September of 2012, by Mayor Betsy Price and the Fort Worth City Council, under the auspices of the Fort Worth Promotion and Development Fund. As of May 2014, FitWorth has a new home under the independent Foundation for Wellness, Texas. Based on the concepts of collective impact, the Spectrum of Prevention, and the Institute of Medicine's key recommendations for accelerating progress in childhood obesity, FitWorth is building on the success of existing resources and partnering with local leadership to make healthy activity and nutritious food the norm in Fort Worth.
