The Lawsuit Reform Alliance of New York (LRANY) is a broad based coalition of hardworking New York business leaders, professionals, local government leaders and consumers who are committed to changing New York's burdensome and expensive legal system to help create more jobs and energize our State's economy.Unfortunately, New York's legal system – our lawyer tax — has contributed to the enormously high property tax burden for homeowners and businesses in New York, reduced access to health care, and driven up costs for homebuilders and homeowners. The failure of our elected officials to meaningfully address this issue has hindered efforts to revitalize New York's economy. In 2003, Texas adopted major "tort reform" and in 2007 job growth in Texas was 300% the rate of job growth in New York. Business leaders have identified lawsuit reform as a significant contributing factor leading to the success of Texas.Startlingly, much of our efforts in New York to make the system better get distracted as the powerful lawyer lobby and their allies in the New York State legislature keep on coming up with schemes to make New York's legal system even worse. Our organization is committed to:•Fighting for meaningful, commonsense reforms that will put an end to New York's notorious "tort tax".•Cracking down on frivolous lawsuits that burden our state's economy and cost taxpayers and consumers billions each year.•Stopping the powerful trial lawyer lobby's efforts to expand their influence and change laws that would make it easier for them to exploit New York's legal system.
