Art 120 is a 501(c)3 organization created to enrich Chattanooga and its surrounding community through the creation, education, and celebration of art. It's all about A.R.T.Awareness between the community, artists, educators, and non-profit organizations thereby creating a creative network that will encompass a 120 mile radius around Chattanooga.Reaching out to the public and underserved schools through free art events in Hamilton County that help strengthen Chattanooga's ties to its creative community recognizes participating artists of all ages and mediums. Teaching STE(A)M-based workforce development skills to urban youth through the creation of mechanical sculpture and reinforcing their talents through continued participation in community events.1) All Children Should Have Access to Art. Imagine attending an elementary school where art does not exist and field trips are not possible. Not only does this limit a child's potential but it also disconnects them from cultural opportunities available in their own community. Chattanooga has been praised as a city that, "Lives and breathes art.", yet there are approximately 14,500 elementary school students in Hamilton County that may never know if what they desire, dream, or create is of any importance. We bring artists in from across the U.S. to reach these schools.2) When Art Gets to the People, Everybody Wins! While the artists are here, we organize a free art parade for the public. We also encourage schools to make and enter mobile creations as well. Local businesses, non-profits, and artists in the community participate too. Schools and students get to exhibit their work alongside professional artists and compete for trophies and cash prizes.3) We Cook with STE(A)M- Our urban art bike workshop is expanding to accommodate more hands-on creative arts opportunities for youth. Students will work in an environment that encourages learning by merging new technologies with traditional arts.
