Pelvic Health Support is led by Kathy Kates, FNP—a pelvic floor therapist and family practice nurse practitioner who specializes in optimizing patients' pelvic health. Through a gentle, hands-on technique called myofascial release, Kathy brings balance to the pelvic region to treat a range of problems that affect women, men, transgender and gender non-conforming patients at all stages of life. Our treatment works on the fascia, a fully body system of connective tissue that also connects the pelvis to major muscle groups in the lower body. When hardened or restricted, the fascia can cause physical pain and other problems. Myofascial release of the pelvic floor relaxes the fascia, releases the pressure that results in pain, and improves mobility, flexibility, and stability. Although myofascial release is a biomechanical modality, the technique is distinct from physical therapy, embracing a more holistic approach. We focus on patients with an active or prior cancer diagnosis who are experiencing pelvic pain. We also treat women who are pregnant or postpartum, peri- or post-menopausal; men suffering from penile, bladder, prostate or digestive issues, back or hip pain; and transgender and gender non-conforming patients. Oncologists, urologists, gynecologists, urogynecologists, surgeons and behavioral health clinicians refer patients to Pelvic Health Support because it is a clinically informed, evidence-based practice led by a primary care practitioner with a medical background.
