Visit North Iceland is the official DMMO for North Iceland. The development of the tourist routes Arctic Coast Way and Diamond Circle is our focus. North Iceland is a friendly area including Akureyri and a number of historic coastal towns. Activities include whale watching, seal and birdwatching, and horseback riding. North Iceland is Icelander's no 1 winter destination with ski areas, off-piste skiing, and 13 Yule Lads (Santas). We also offer various winter activities as dog-sledding, snowmobiling, super jeep tours, and geothermal bathing. Staying in North Iceland for 5 days gives you 90% chance of seeing the northern lights. The tourist route Arctic Coast Way stretches 900 km along the north coast including historic coastal towns, highlights such as Hvítserkur cliff and the Arctic Henge, also black sand beaches, hiking routes, and midnight sunspots. Diamond Circle has 5 key locations, Húsavík town, Ásbyrgi canyon, Dettifoss waterfall, Lake Mývatn and Goðafoss waterfall. Visit North Iceland works directly with the Icelandic Route Developement fund to support new routes to Akureyri International Airport.
