What Motivates Us John Brown Real Estate strives to think outside of the conventional real estate company box by targeting social, environmental and financial impactful projects. The company is named after the legendary slavery Abolitionist John Brown who famously left his comfortable perch and gave his life to fight for what he believed. We have left our perch! We are giving EVERYTHING towards positively impacting the lives of our stakeholders and neighbors and not just financially. It starts in-house! Every deal that crosses our desk, we assess the potential social, environmental, and financial benefits combined to determine an all-in return. SOCIALLY – We focus on profit sharing with our team and local communities. We buck the trend on prioritizing institutional and high net worth individual capital raises for community equity. Top down pay structures are non-existent here, everyone eats! We focus on affordability for our tenants and profit sharing. We never displace nor target disadvantaged tenants for the sake of financial gain. Rather, we aim to empower all tenants and offer ownership opportunities whenever possible. ENVIRONMENTALLY – We evaluate the feasibility of implementing advanced sustainable systems on all acquisitions. Research shows that real estate is responsible for up to 60% of human's carbon output. We all must share responsibility in the health of our planet for this generation and our kids'. Unless it is urban infill, we do not believe in ground up development as being environmentally responsible regardless of the potential carbon savings when compared to a non-green building. Nothing is more sustainable and green than the earth's natural habitat. FINANCIALLY – Usually the largest motivator for firms operating in our capitalist society, this component is equally important to us as the factors listed above. Rather than downplay the importance of financial impact, we use the previous listed factors to increase returns.
