In November 2011 Dom Raban (one of the Xploro® founders) received the tragic news that his 13 year old daughter had been diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare bone cancer. She's now 7 years cancer-free but when she was ill she received virtually no prior information about the people she would meet, the environments she would be treated in or the technology and processes that would be used to treat her. That lack of information left her feeling scared anxious and alone. She was resistant to treatments because their purpose wasn't explained to her and she was scared to go in to hospital because she didn't know what to expect. And so in response to his daughter's experience, and the experiences of other patients about to go undergo unfamiliar and scary medical treatments, Dom and has team are developing Xploro®. Xploro® is a mobile application that uses augmented reality, gameplay and artificial intelligence to deliver health information to patients, reducing the stress and anxiety associated with hospitalisation, improving health literacy and fostering better engagement with health services. We're starting with children with cancer, but we're aiming to build a health information platform for any patient, of any age, with any condition, anywhere in the world.
