Electrical Industries Limited was initially formed in 1969, as a joint venture between A.E.I Compounds of the United Kingdom and a local firm. From its inception, the company has been credited as the pioneer of the local cable manufacturing industry. In 1997 upon its acquisition by Trinidad Electrical Manufacturing Corporation Limited, EIL consolidated its manufacturing prowess with the marketing and distribution expertise of Electrical Distributors Limited, another TEMCO company. Today, EIL enjoys the distinction of being the only regional company whose business portfolio combines the manufacture of electrical cables, electrical switchgear and the distribution of electrical construction materials. The organisation's corporate offices and Manufacturing Complex are now centralized at Tumpuna Road, Arima. The cable production plant occupies approximately 100,000 square feet and is equipped with advanced manufacturing technologies including multiple-strand wire drawing and stranding systems. The switchgear plant utilizes approximately 25,000 square feet and its automated processes include superior assembly and powder finishing systems. Warehousing facilities at Chaguanas add another 42,000 square feet of available space. The company's marketing department consists of the Export Sales Division and the Domestic Sales Division. Today, approximately 50% of product is sold locally with the balance sold internationally. The Human Resource complement at EIL is presently two hundred employees.
