Hearing the Homeless (HTH) is new nonprofit 501(c)(3) startup based in Austin, Texas. Our vision is to create an environment that humanizes the dehumanized by promoting a new way of looking at the issue of homelessness by seeing everyone as an individual in need of love, connection, and support. Through facilitating positive interactions between the homeless and the community as a whole, we aim to unify everyone in Austin to work together to fulfill not just the financial needs of the homeless, but the social, emotional, and spiritual needs as well. HTH works with the homeless, or as we call them, "HTH Representatives" on a one-on-one basis by capturing their story and sharing the videos with the world. We believe that each person is just that, a person with feelings, dreams, and needs. By showing their stories as told by them, we allow the community to view the people they may normally walk right by in a humanized way. We invite the community to donate directly to the person whose story they connect with, with 90% of th money donated directly onto that individual's personal prepaid expense cards to be used only at certain locations. HTH believes that one way to spread love is through art so we engage the community through artistic expression. We partner with the Austin Public School system, local companies, artists, and pop-up events to provide opportunities for art therapy. This art is used to facilitate donations and generally spread joy. Soon, our HTH Reps will become mobile art vendors allowing them the opportunity of a steady revenue-stream. HTH understands that homelessness is a "problem" and we know that "solving" it is a lofty goal. However, we believe that if we can make a difference in even a small number of people's lives, it is a step in the right direction. We aim to hear and help the homeless... one human at a time.
