The Museum of Art & Photography's (MAP) is a new museum project focused on the preservation of India's cultural heritage through exhibition and education. Opening in Bangalore in 2021.Its mission is to take art and culture to the heart of the community making it accessible to diverse audiences. It will achieve this by exhibiting, interpreting and preserving India's rich artistic heritage, motivated by the belief that museums should play a positive role in society. MAP will be a space for ideas and conversations that are initiated through its collection enabling engagement with audiences in multiple ways. In addition, MAP is set to be the most inclusive museum in the country, taking a 360-degree approach to accessibility with a special focus on people with disabilities. MAP's flagship building will be located in the heart of Bangalore and is scheduled to open to the public in 2021. It will be a purpose-built facility with five galleries, an auditorium, research library, classroom for children's activities and its education programme, and a conservation centre.While the museum's physical space is being built, MAP is carrying out its mission by actively reaching out to the community through a variety of programmes and projects, including loans, exhibitions, workshops and lectures. MAP manages a large and varied collection of over 18,000 artworks, dating from the 12th century to the present, and covering Modern & Contemporary, Photography, Folk & Tribal, Popular Culture and Textiles, Craft & Design and Pre-Modern Art. This collection forms the nucleus of the Museum's exhibitions, and is also available to researchers and for loans from qualifying institutions and museums, both in India and abroad.MAP is a non-profit charitable organisation that is funded through private and corporate philanthropy.
