Founded in 1976, the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials (KIMM) is a government-funded research institute under the Ministry of Science, ICT (information communication technology) and Future Planning.KIMM's mission is to contribute to economic growth of the nation by performing research & development (R&D) on key technologies in the area of mechanical engineering. KIMM conducts reliability tests, evaluates machine components and materials, and commercializes the developed products or machineries through technology transfer and support. During my tenure, I plan to make the Institute be a leading institute in its area of discipline by introducing a new governance system to foster Knowledge, Innovation, Motivation, and Marketability. Ultimately, our goal is to improve research productivity and capability.KIMM's research interests are widely spread from the nano-scale to macroscale and cover five research divisions; Advanced Manufacturing Systems, Nano-Convergence Mechanical Systems, Environment and Energy Systems, Extreme Mechanical Systems Engineering, and Mechanical Systems Safety. Apart from the main research institute in Daejeon, KIMM also has three regional research centers in Daegu, Busan and Gimhae. Respectively, these research centers specialize in Medical Devices and Green Energy, Laser Technologies, and LNG and Cryogenic Technology.With the development of cutting-edge, pioneering technologies, KIMM collaborates with industries to create a mutually beneficial environment for both industry and research. We also strive to support and promote science and technology in order to create a research-friendly environment.KIMM looks forward to working with and partnering with eminent research institutes in the world, since we believe that advancement of science and technology has no national boundaries.With such an effort, KIMM is trying to make the people happier and the future brighter.Thank you.
