Mitigation Officer at GeoHazards International - Menlo Park, California, United States
GeoHazards International works to end preventable death and suffering from natural disasters. Our projects address risk from earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides and floods. We help communities in which people are highly vulnerable and there is little capacity to mitigate hazards. Our approach emphasizes building skills and experience among local engineers, scientists, government agencies, universities, and building trades. Much of our work targets school and hospital readiness, improved engineering and construction, and development policies. We also educate people how to safeguard their families and neighborhoods."Communities" in our projects range from an association of nations (the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development), a nation (Bhutan), a megacity (Delhi), a village (Chocos, Peru), a dispersed ethnic group (Tibetans in northern India), or particularly vulnerable segments of society (sight-impaired individuals, women or children).A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, GeoHazards International has conducted significant projects in more than 40 communities around the world since its founding in 1991. Headquarters is based in California. Field offices are located in New Delhi, India; Aizawl, India; and Thimphu, Bhutan.
