The San Diego Housing Commission (SDHC) is an award-winning public housing agency that has earned national recognition for its innovative programs that provide housing opportunities for individuals and families with low income and/or experiencing homelessness in the city of San Diego—the eighth-largest city in the nation, second largest in California. Established in 1979, SDHC's major major program functions include: Providing federal rental assistance for more than 16,000 households with low income annually; Leading collaborative efforts to address homelessness, including HOUSING FIRST – SAN DIEGO, SDHC’s landmark homelessness action plan, which has created more than 10,600 housing solutions since its launch in November 2014 for San Diegans experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness; and Creating and preserving affordable rental housing units through collaborations with developers, as the owner and/or operator of affordable rental housing units, and by administering City of San Diego land use programs, such as inclusionary housing. More than 22,000 affordable housing units created or preserved with SDHC's participation are in service today. “We’re About People.” Limited Public Forum Social Media Policy: The San Diego Housing Commission (SDHC) provides external social media as a public service.
