Artists' Legal Advice Services (ALAS) is a volunteer-run organization that provides free summary legal advice and information to creators living in Ontario, Canada. ALAS assists creators in three main ways: educational programming, weekly legal clinics, and a legal database. Our educational programs each focus on different areas of law and art, and seek to provide creators with guidance directly from industry and legal experts. The ALAS Legal Clinic is offered in person in downtown Toronto during evening sessions, and virtually during COVID and afternoon sessions. The Clinic provides creators with an opportunity to meet one-on-one with legal practitioners experienced in arts and entertainment law who will offer relevant summary legal advice in 30 minute sessions. The Legal Database includes an ever-growing number of articles and resources that provide information on legal topics relevant to artists and creators.
