Open Africa is a social enterprise that works with small businesses to establish rural tourism routes that offer travellers authentic experiences, while generating income and jobs for local people. The routes (similar in concept to wine routes) are marketed via the Open Africa website to travellers who, by travelling along a route support these local enterprises, thereby creating and sustaining jobs. To date 64 self-drive travel routes across six countries support 2,482 businesses and employ 28,497 people. 1.
