Located at 1200 Route 25A in Stony Brook, the Long Island Museum is a Smithsonian Affiliate dedicated to enhancing the lives of adults and children with an understanding of Long Island's rich history and diverse cultures. The museum is open Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Occupying nine landscaped acres in historic Stony Brook, the museum includes three exhibition buildings and five historic structures featuring permanent and changing exhibitions on American history and art as they relate to Long Island, as well as the finest collection of horse-drawn carriages in the United States. The museum is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums and in 2006, became a Smithsonian Affiliate.
