StageOne Family Theatre fosters empathy and sparks the imagination of children and their communities through the transformative power of live theatre. As Louisville's oldest professional theatre company, StageOne Family Theatre has served as the gateway to the performing arts for more than 3 million area children across our 73-year history. We believe live theatre is essential to the development of every human being, especially children. Therefore StageOne Family Theatre removes financial, cultural or geographic barriers to the performing arts. Through our ticket underwriting program "Play it Forward" thousands of future arts patrons have their first Theatre experience with StageOne. Our programming includes canonical adaptations of children's literature, devised and interactive/participation based work, and commissioned new plays, most notably the award winning And In This Corner: Cassius Clay by Idris Goodwin. We supplement our work with custom designed study guides, post show engagement opportunities, in school and community workshops. We actively seek opportunities to represent the diverse demographics of our audience on stage and off, through the plays we produce, the performers we cast, technicians, designers, teaching artists, and interns we employ, and in the organizations with whom we partner. StageOne aspires to cultivate consistent culturally diverse spaces around the arts. In the 2019-2020 season more than half of the actors casted will be people of color and female identified. And more than half of the plays produced will be new works by living authors.
