UTC Central Bedfordshire is based in Houghton Regis. We provide hands-on learning for 16-19 year olds, specialising in manufacturing engineering, automation and robotics. Our curriculum is designed in collaboration with our many local industry partners and is driven by industry needs in filling skills shortages in STEM subjects. Students study BTEC and A Levels giving them a technical specialism in engineering, spending over half their lesson time in our state of the art workshops. A great deal of emphasis is placed on transferable skills such as enterprise and team work. All students take part in enrichment activities, from Duke of Edinburgh and Young Enterprise, to karate and F1 in Schools. We opened in September 2012 for our first group of Post 16 students, and are taking applications now for Year 12 students to start this September. We are always looking to engage with industry partners across the region in supporting our curriculum delivery, in turn providing a highly skilled and experienced pool of young engineers and designers to recruit from. The UTC has a large engineering workshop with industry-standard equipment and technology. Our students experience a real work-based learning environment, with full support from our expert tutors and industry professionals.
