By working with scientist and landowners to tell the story of the Florida panther and the land it needs to survive, we are seeking common ground to balance the needs of people and wildlife. Florida's human population is projected to grow to 35 million by 2070. At the current land development of more than a million acres a decade, we will lose 5 million acres by 2070. The alternative is to protect the Florida Wildlife Corridor and other priority conservation lands so we can accommodate our growing population while sustaining Florida's wild heart. Because panthers need the same forests, wetlands, ranches and farms that provide clean air, water and food for Floridians, protecting the path of the panther is ultimately protecting ourselves.
