Since 1987, Family Life Education has been working with and elevating the lives of at-risk, low income families in the Greater Hartford Area. Today, we work with families who are looking to transform their lives and that of their children through our model of self-efficacy. We do so because we have seen the powerful difference this work makes in the lives of the children and families that walk through our doors. We do so because we understand the need to assist youth, women, fathers, and families attain their fullest potential, and adapt a mindset of "I can" instead of "I can't." In August of 2018, we proudly opened the Louise E. Loomis Children's Wellness Center. We learned a few years prior that 37% of young children in the Greater Hartford area are obese or overweight. Research from UConn's Center for Public Health Policy among others studies opened our eyes up to this epidemic. We understand that in order to create positive change for children, educating parents is paramount––and so we took on the charge. We offer a variety of cognitive and physical wellness programs and events that include parent/child cooking classes, family literacy, child/family yoga and mindfulness, and baby massage just to name a few.Our mission is to build a stronger community by fostering meaningful partnerships and engaging families in a participatory process leading to self-efficacy: the belief and capacity to confidently exert control over one's own motivation, behavior, and social environment.
