Since 1982, Medical Air Rescue has been the region's premier air medical transport service, caring for thousands of patients since the program began. Medical Air Rescue is based in Rapid City, South Dakota, but services South Dakota, Nebraska and Wyoming with satellite bases located in Valentine, Nebraska; and Pine Ridge, South Dakota. Patients requiring ALS transport care are typically suffering from trauma, burns, or cardiac failure, but may suffer from a variety of other conditions. Patients on ALS transports may require the equipment and medical flight care to handle BLS functions as well as cardiac defibrillation, ability to control and monitor dysrhythmias, administer medications, and establish and maintain respiratory airways.
