Production Manager at The Dartmoor Soap Company - Okehampton, England, United Kingdom
The Dartmoor Soap Company follows an ancient artisan recipe to make beautiful, natural soaps using the traditional cold-process method. Each soap is hand stirred, hand cut and individually decorated. We produce the highest quality products in the most sustainable manner possible. As such we make the following pledges: 1. No SLS or parabens: Inspired by our baby's delicate skin, we wanted to create a soap that was devoid of chemical irritants such as Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulphate (SLS & SLR), Methyl, Propyl, Butyl and Ethyl Parabens, petrolatum and artificial colours. 2. No palm oil: Here at the Dartmoor Soap Company we do not believe in using palm oil. Since the demand for palm oil has increased dramatically over the past few years, rainforests are being destroyed to make way for palm oil plantations. These actions have numerous consequences. Put simply, the natural habitat of the indigenous population is being threatened, deforestation negatively impacts on climate change and the habitats of endangered species are being destroyed. Palm oil is often used in soap-making because it produces a solid bar with a stable lather, however it is primarily used because it can be purchased at low cost. After much research and experimentation on willing volunteers we have created several formulas combining natural, sustainable oils which nourish and treat the skin whilst also producing the rich creamy lathers favoured by both soap makers and users. 3. Local ingredients: Wherever possible we use locally sourced ingredients. Our honey and beeswax comes from a local apiarist in North Bovey on Dartmoor and our goat's milk soap is made with fresh milk just 5 minutes from The DSC HQ. All our soaps are made with pure spring water from Dartmoor except for our Dartmoor Ale soap, which is made with undiluted Jail Ale from Dartmoor Brewery in Princetown.
