JVC also played an important role in the development of television, commercializing Japan's first black-and-white and then color TVs . It also developed the two-head helical scan system, which became the foundation for videocassette recorders. In 1976, JVC introduced the world's first VHS format video recorder, which became the de facto world standard for video and spawned an all-new culture of visual communication.
