Ushaw: Beautiful, architecturally significant Historic House and Chapels, extensive cultural events and entertainment programme, corporate facilities, set in acres of manicured gardens and woodlands 4 mile from Durham City.A former Catholic Seminary, with a history stretching back more than 200 years, and roots in colleges much older than that. A successor of the English College at Douai, Ushaw houses some of the most beautiful Pugin architecture, as well as St. Cuthbert's Chapel with its beautiful stained glass windows. We also have our wonderful dining space, The Refectory Cafe, which is open to the public, and offers a selection of hot and cold meals, as well as a selection of drinks. The Refectory has been broadly unchanged since the building was used as a College, and gives our visitors some of the most serene and architecturally stunning dining experiences in the region. Ushaw has since opened it's doors to the public, allowing anyone who wants to visit our wonderful halls, enjoy the great food in the Refectory, or view our array of exhibitions the chance to do so. In 2014, Ushaw began a successful programme of events, with performances from some of the best talent the region has to offer, as well as those from further afield. Alongside this, as a successful conferencing centre we hire rooms to various organisations for their events needs, from presentations to performances. In recent months, we have hosted events by the Bank of England, as well as the University of the Third Age. We also house a library, with one of the most comprehensive collections of work on northern Catholicism in 19th Century England. For more information, please visit our website.
