City Gates Academy Philippines provides free education to poor and destitute children in exchange for work. This provides the parents with the following: First, pride and dignity as human beings; second, an opportunity to wean them from a dole-out mentality; and third, the prospect of instilling them with a sense of community.City Gates Academy is a fun, bright, energetic infant and nursery school providing free education to the poorest children living in Manila. Our primary aim is to make a difference to the lives of poor children and their families by providing quality education enabling them to make better life choices and become productive members of society and escape from poverty. Our children are aged 3-7 and we run four classes per day with around 15 pupils in each class. Two in the morning Nursery and Year 1 and two in the afternoon Reception and Year 2. The children are taught mostly in English. Formal public schooling does not begin in the Philippines until age 7 so our aim is give children a head start in order that they may succeed in school and have more chance to complete their education.We run a thematic UK based curriculum and have the advantage that our principal is from the UK and is familiar with international curriculum enabling us to link easily with any school. We have so much to offer a school willing to link with us with materials and resources available. The Philippines as a country is full of culture, history, geography and we can tailor make any activities or curriculum to suit your requirements. It is also a third world country, with many people in need, making what we do here at City Gates Academy so important.
