The original Boyar's was established in 1924 by Louis Boyar. At the time, Boyar's Market was a small fruit and produce stand on the site of the old Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company store located at 13th Street and Asbury Avenue. Since the beginning, Boyar's has seen many changes. The first of which was the expansion of ownership. In the mid-1980's, Gail and Scott Ping joined Robert Blutinger (the only remaining original family member) and helped expand Boyar's presence. A few years later, Bobby Salvucci a long time summer employee joined the other owners. With the expansion of ownership, Boyar's, a once seasonal market, became a year-round store. More changes came to Boyar's, the most prominent being the decision to rebuild the market as the original building was not capable of allowing Boyar's to keep pace with the ever-growing supply and demand of the customers. In 2004, the original location was demolished and the new storefront was built. Since this renovation, Boyar's has continued to enjoy year round success. In 2015, Boyar's expanded, by opening a second, seasonal location at 55th Street and Haven Avenue. With this added location, Boyar's has experienced great success with their ability to serve the South End of Ocean City from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day Weekend. The most recent changes to Boyar's include the retirements of Bobby Salvucci and Robert Blutinger (the only remaining original family member) in 2020. They served the Ocean City community for many years, for Robert, his entire life! Filling in their shoes as owners are Scott & Gail's daughter Lacey Ping, and long time employee, Brian Montgomery. Since the beginning, Boyar's commitment to Ocean City, it's residents and visitors has not changed. They will proudly continue to bring quality food and service to Ocean City and the Southern New Jersey communities.
