Therapist & Owner at Restoration Counseling, PLLC - Seattle, Washington, United States
Counseling for adults, teens, and children who are ready to start the journey to a more fulfilled life. Who Am I? My name is Mackenzi, and I am a licensed mental health counselor in Washington State (MC.60633251). My training primarily comes from a number of areas. I received my Masters in the Arts of Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in marriage and family therapy for Latinx communities from Pepperdine University (yes, that is my very long-winded degree title!). While in school I learned a wide variety of techniques that equip me to be attuned to working with various cultures. In my training I came to learn that "culture" is a very loaded word. While one might think culture means a specific ethnicity or community, I've come to learn that it really means that we all come from very different backgrounds. Some of us may look the same, but we likely were not raised the same. This is how I have come to understand the world - we are all beings with different cultural backgrounds. And in turn, this has influenced my work - I seek to learn your specific background because what may work for someone else may not work for you. My goal is to attune my therapy to you and your unique cultural background. Training I was trained in Post-Modern therapies, specifically Narrative therapy. While I was trained in many other popular therapies, I discovered that Narrative fit best with what I was trying to accomplish with my clients - to learn their story and support them as they continue to write it. In my professional training I have obtained specialized experience working with adult individuals, youth, and young children. I specifically have vast experience working with members of the LGBTQIA+ communities and Latinx communities. With an undergraduate background in theological studies from Seattle Pacific University, I enjoy exploring topics of spirituality of all shapes and sizes. I have taken a particular interest in the topic of spiritual abuse as well.
