The Broadway Sinfonietta is an all female-identifying, majority women of color orchestral collective whose mission is to support the existence, excellence, and equity of female BIPOC musicians in the Broadway industry. Founded by orchestrator Macy Schmidt, the ensemble debuted in October 2020 to immense support and excitement from the Broadway community. After an exclusive premiere with CBS, the Sinfonietta went on to be featured in NBC New York, Rolling Stone, BuzzFeed, Grammy Magazine, Backstage Magazine, The Broadway Briefing, Playbill, Broadway.com, and more. In just two short months, The Broadway Sinfonietta has provided employment to over 30 female-identifying musicians across a variety of artistic endeavors. Recently, the Sinfonietta has collaborated on recordings with artists & organizations including Angela Sclafani, Women of Color on Broadway (with the support of MAC Cosmetics), Seaview Productions, and more.
