Glickman Schlesinger Architects was formed in 2009 in Brooklyn, NY. Since then we have worked on an extensive range of project types: residential apartments and townhouses, full-building adaptive reuse projects, and commercial projects. We see our expertise anchored less in any particular use or program, but more in the particularities of renovation, taking a raw brick box or a partial rehab that has historically been many things and transforming it into its next thing. Most recently, we are focused on designing healthy new buildings. In this way, GSA's work is firmly rooted in New York City, a dense environment with a seemingly endless supply of interiors. Our work in these spaces has pushed us to consider the importance of the details, the way materials relate and come together. Through this we have come to focus not only on form, but the space that people inhabit, and the qualities of that space such as light, color, and materiality. When we design an entire building, the same considerations are at the center of our thoughts. Every building is a place, made up of its parts, and we put the pieces together. We have recently taken this to the next logical step and are pursuing our interest in making buildings and spaces that consider the health of its inhabitants, our ecosystem, and planet as central. We strive to use materials that are sustainable and minimize our carbon footprint. To that end, we have become a certified Passive House Design Consultant. Going forward we specialize in rebuilding existing structures and creating new ones with a goal of low-energy high-performance standards of Passive House and construction practices that minimize waste, minimize the use of harmful chemicals or processes, and maximize user health and comfort.
