Maingate Business Development Corporation (Maingate) was incorporated in 1990 by areabusinesses to stem significant decline and effect positive change in the key industrial-businessarea located to the southeast of Downtown Cleveland. The original two-square-mile district, stretching from Woodland Avenue (on the north) down to the Cuyahoga River Industrial Valley (tothe south), was enormously crucial to Cleveland and the Nation's industrial and economicadvancement for over two centuries, but had suffered from severe decline by the 1960's, 70's &80's.The Maingate organization was formed with the purpose of focusing on reinvigorating businessretention, expansion and attraction to that area, with activities ranging from master planning andupgrading the physical & safety environment to advocating business needs with government andmarketing and enhancing the area's image. Through the Maingate agency's 17 years of work, disinvestment was reversed and area confidence was restored. In 2007, Maingate's longstanding, founding Executive Director decided to retire her post and the organization began thesearch for new leadership to take the helm and steer the agency through its next chapter of serviceto the community. The corporation's leadership saw this as an opportunity to expand on itsmission and examine the many options before it to effectuate major new economic redevelopmenthere -- not only for the district, but for the overall benefit & prosperity of the City of Cleveland andthe Northeast Ohio region.
