Resident Assistant at Brenda Jean's Sober Living Facility - Bakersfield, California, United States
Brenda Jean's Sober Living was established in 2015, for the purpose of providing a supportive and safe sober living environment for individuals re-entering society or recovering from homelessness and in need of quality housing while pursuing a better life. Brenda Jean's is named and modeled after the mother of Dr. Bryan Bowens, who spent her entire working life as a adult care provider for the elderly, disabled, and the hospice population. Dr. Bowens dream and passion was to open a homeless shelter in Bakersfield, CA. After Dr. Bowens collaborated with his mother about their passions, a sober living environment was formed. As a result, Dr. Bowens dedicated this facility to providing welcoming living environments for men that are homeless, suffering from drug or alcohol addiction, or come from the mental health or probation population. The mission of Brenda Jean Sober Living is for each resident to have the opportunity to work through their own problems and feel some measure of control; as well as to help each resident move towards reconciliation and re-unification with their families and friends. We provide each resident educational and business opportunities to develop their own employability and self-esteem; so they can move forward in a better direction preparing them to feel better about themselves and be self-enabling in society.
